Poster Frame

Dark Matter

I wanted to make a simple frame to showcase this physicist’s research. My days of just using scotch tape to adhere posters is long gone, so I decided to make use of my circular saw and extra magnets.

I purchased some 18”x 0.25” appearance wood from the local lumbar supply shop and went to work.

Neodymium Magnets

I used a handheld circular saw to cut the 1.5”x0.25” board into four 18” lengths. I chiseled slots to fit 5 strong (neodymium) magnets on each board. I was careful to keep in mind the polarity (otherwise the boards would have repelled). Afterwards, I smoothed the boards using an orbital sander down to 360 grit sandpaper. I liked the look of the natural wood so opted out of staining it.

I secured the magnets into the chiseled slots with some good ol’ cyanoacrylate.

Secure to the Wall

I secured the frame by sandwiching yarn between the boards and poster.
